For many years, Clarinetist Roger Campbell dreamed of playing the music of the Benny Goodman Sextet. In 1997, that dream became reality when he teamed up with Vibist Rick Weingarten to play some of the best swing music ever written -- but with a little modern twist. Rather than recreate what Benny Goodman, Lionel Hampton, Teddy Wilson, Gene Krupa, and Charlie Christian mastered, After Midnight injects some modern style into those hits. We also incorporate music from Artie Shaw and his Gramercy Five plus other great swing music recently made popular by the likes of Dianna Krall, Norah Jones, Madelline Peroux, and Harry Connick Jr. We even play a few Ray Charles hits, just for fun! Click here for a sample song list or here for our most requested songs at weddings.
Our instrumentation is unlike any other band in the region and very few in the world -- we feature Clarinet, Vibraphone, Piano, Bass, Guitar/Vocals, and Drums. What's a Vibraphone? It's a lot like bells or marimba, but has vibrato when you hit the metal bars. From time to time we are also fortunate to work with some of the best "chick" singers around including Jodi Renee, Wende Harston, Lisa Bell, Deejha Marie, and Joni Janak. We've even worked with actress Lea Thompson and her daughter Madelyn Deutch!
We've done thousands of concerts, weddings, events, festivals, dances, and clubs over the years. Some of the more memorable ones include:
Sacramento Jazz Jubilee
Capital City Jazz Festival
Evergreen Jazz Festival
Taste of Colorado
Cherry Creek Arts Festival
Jazz in the Sangres Festival

Absolutely we can do tribute concerts to the King of Swing (Benny Goodman) and/or the King of the Clarinet (Artie Shaw)! We recently added a new show to our bag that pays tribute to the great Vibraphonist, Lionel Hampton! Audiences love these fun and informative shows!
So what's with the name "After Midnight"?
Nothing, really. An advertising friend suggested lots of names, and that's the one that stuck. No, it has nothing to do with the Monk tune 'Round Midnight. And no, we don't ever play the Eric Clapton tune called After Midnight (actually, it's written by JJ Cale). It just sounded cool, kind of like us! Besides, it's better than the "Roger Campbell Sextet". Just try not to confuse us with other adult entertainment on the net ;-).
